Valerie Maunder

Dear members,

It is with great sadness that I write to pass on the sad news of the death of Valerie Maunder who was a member of the club with her family for several years. She leaves her husband, John (a former committee member and team player), two daughters, Sophie and Jessica, and son Joe, all keen tennis players themselves. She will be much missed by many.

“A service of thanksgiving will be held at St Nicholas Church, Rectory Lane, Sevenoaks, Kent, TN13 1JA (parking is available) on 21st July 2022, 11:30am. Light Refreshments will be served afterwards at the Church. Please feel free to wear a splash of colour.”

Chair’s Report 2019 - 2020

A momentous year for the Club, we have finally paid off the loan for the clubhouse and we have a new treasurer, Bradley Gold! Much as we’d like to give Bradley credit for the healthy financial position, it is of course down to you all that we have achieved this. Now we plan for the future of the courts and we are well on schedule for repainting and then resurfacing when the need arises.

We’d really like to see as many of you as possible at the AGM on Thursday 26 March 2019 7:30pm at the clubhouse to hear what you want from your club.

I would also like to welcome Andy Maiklem to the committee as LTA liaison contact and look forward to her contribution. Many thanks to Julie Brown for her stint as Treasurer and to Nick Christian as LTA contact.

Membership has held up well again with many thanks to Ian Hooper, Membership Secretary, for his hours of chasing subs and finding new members. After several years of holding subs down we are proposing a small increase to ensure we keep on track with our long-term maintenance plans.

A lot of tennis is being played and there are many club teams playing men’s, ladies’, mixed and veterans’ tennis against other clubs. Please do get in touch with one of the captains if you are looking to play matches – details in the clubhouse and on the website: Please also note we have a number of club sessions for which details are also available on the website

STOP PRESS: the men’s 2’s have come top of their league, winning promotion and the chance to play off for a trophy!

The courts and surrounds look as pristine as ever in very large part due to Pat and Ian Udall’s sterling work, gardening and maintaining the clubhouse. Pat and Ian really are our unsung heroes. Once again Peter Wade has made improvements around the club including finally resolving the water pressure issue after much digging by a number of members to identify the issue. And we also have a proper lighting of the path, which has been much appreciated by all night-time players and parents of juniors playing late in the day.

The turnout for the Winter Gardening Working Party in December 2019 was a tad discouraging despite the task being made easier this year by paying for the leaves to be collected. We do need your help.

My thanks go to all the committee for all their hard work behind the scenes and I am delighted that they have all pledged their continuing support for your club by standing for re-election this year. The team went into action recently putting in place posters and hygiene supplies in response to the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

So once again please help us to help you by coming to the AGM Thursday 26 March 2019 7:30pm. At the moment, we are intending to go ahead with the meeting but please watch out for emails if there is a change of plan.
